PORTSMOUTH — An endangered business-to-business publication was saved from possible extinction thanks to the efforts of Boldwerks, a Portsmouth-based marketing and advertising firm.
The Gateway Magazine was created in 1999 and published by Bill and Sharon Bryson out of their Milton home. As a business-to-business magazine, it provided purchasers of manufacturing equipment with advertising, listings and information they might need for their companies.
Bill Bryson, deciding it was time to retire, advertised in the magazine of the need for someone to purchase the magazine and take over the publishing, otherwise it would be shut down. Boldwerks answered the call.
“We had actually designed ads for our clients for the magazine, and we had always been like: This is kind of a nice little gig this guy’s got going on,” said Matthias Roberge, one of Boldwerk’s partners. “And we had actually discussed internally trying to develop some type of industry publication.”
“It was sort of a perfect bridge because we were talking about something similar,” added Boldwerks partner Chris Hislop, “and this just made perfect sense.”
