Happy Halloween
This month we’ve got two stories. The first comes to us from the Sousa Corp. who recently added a new Thermal Cycling Furnace to their floor. We had the opportunity to run some questions by VP Andrew Sousa who filled us in on what this new acquisition means to their business as well as their growing customer base. We’ve also included some company history in the piece to give an overview of their 60 years in business! Congrats to them on six decades of service!
The August issue of the Gateway features the work of our own Richard Taylor shedding some light on Tandem Equipment Sales out of Beverly, Massachusetts. It’s also features Tandem ESD Packaging Sales which is an additional arm of the parent company. Richard tells the story of static protective ESD packaging and the various industries and applications Tandem serves. Thanks, Richard!
It’s been four years since we acquired The Gateway Magazine from the late, great Bill Bryson and his wife, Sharon. At the time we had some idea of what lay ahead in the working confines of the manufacturing industry, but we had no idea what we were truly in for. A global pandemic met us less than a year later which through the entire industry (and world) into a state of uncertainty. We’ve navigated closures and supply chain issues head on and worked collaboratively to help figure out new ways of engaging our greater manufacturing network here in the northeast. It was a curious time, but we’ve come to learn so much.
As we type this, we’re watching the Boston Celtics get crushed by the Miami Heat. We hope, that by the time this issue is published they’ll have become the second Boston team to overcome a 3-0 deficit on route to the championship round, but they’re in for a mighty tall task. As our man Kevin Garnett said, “anything’s possible!” And we live by that. While we’re watching our favorite teams, living our daily lives, and growing our businesses. Do you believe?
This month we’re placing the bright lights on a new advertiser, Capco Crane & Hoist. They’re a material handling service organization located in Rowley, MA – a suburb of Boston. Overhead cranes and hoists are their specialty (which makes sense, given it’s “in the name”), with services ranging from manufacturing and sales to installation and inspection for overhead bridge crane and hoists operated by industrial companies in the United States and abroad.
This issue of the Gateway see’s our quarterly columnist, Paul Critchley, manifesting a dialogue that showcases the principles of lean manufacturing in the organization and distribution of his daughter’s Girl Scout cookie order(s). It’s a very fun piece and the metaphor is sound. Check it out. A nice lighthearted piece to get Q2 rolling.
The second feature is entitled, “How Technological Advances Are Changing the Manufacturing Industry,” and is a quick overview of the recent wave of technological advances that are moving our industry forward. It was fun to research and write, and we’re sure there are pieces of it incorporated into your operative processes. Let us know which ones. Let your customers know which ones. We’d love to showcase your story and place the spotlight on what services and value you provide your industry peers and end-user customer base.
What’s the workforce saying amongst each other on the shop floor? What are they asking you directly? And is what they’re asking one dimensional, or are there different ways of considering the message. Further, how are your employees taking what you’re saying? Is it landing the way you expected it to or are there more effective ways of communicating the thought to get the most of your team?
